Founder guide - Timeline

When to order a custom wedding dress.

A calm custom wedding dress timeline needs more than production weeks. I count consultation, quote review, measurements, production, QC, shipping, and the buffer for small local alterations after delivery.

Vi's note

Written by Vi Updated

For VI Dressmakers custom orders, I do not use one timeline for every bride. I check the wedding date, delivery country, dress complexity, and how quickly measurements can be confirmed.

The atelier work itself is often discussed as 8-12 weeks once the order is underway, but that is not the whole calendar. A bride also needs time to choose the direction, confirm measurements, approve QC, receive the dress, and try it on locally.

If the wedding is sooner, I can still review the brief, but I would rather be honest early than create pressure later.

The order timeline begins before fabric is cut: brief, quote, measurements, and production direction must be clear.

Milestones

The important dates are not all sewing dates.

For remote orders, the safest timeline has written milestones. I want the bride to know when the order is confirmed, when measurements are reviewed, when production starts, when final QC is sent, and when shipping begins.

Kathleen ordered on 30 April 2026 for a 1 October 2026 wedding. Her dress was packed on 7 August, shipped on 8 August, and delivered in Australia on 11 August. That is a strong example of why starting early helps: the dress arrived well before the wedding date.

That delivery speed is case-specific. I would never use one fast delivery to promise every destination will move the same way.

  • Inquiry

Send wedding date, delivery country, references, fit concerns, and timeline pressure.

  • Quote

Vi reviews feasibility and confirms design scope and payment milestones in writing.

  • Measurements

Numbers are checked before cutting. Inconsistent points may need recheck photos or video.

  • Final QC

Photos or video are sent before final balance and dispatch, then shipping proof follows.

Buffers

Plan for the parts nobody can fully control.

International shipping depends on destination, courier route, and local handling. Remote measurements cannot remove every fit risk. These are not reasons to avoid ordering remotely, but they are reasons to plan properly.

If you are ordering from Australia or the USA, I prefer to know your delivery city, wedding date, and whether you have a local alteration option. A calm timeline includes both the dress and what happens after it arrives.

The best result is not only a dress that ships. It is a dress that arrives early enough for the bride to try on without panic.

Redacted Australia Post delivered tracking proof for a VI Dressmakers wedding dress shipment
Tracking proof is useful after dispatch, but it should not replace proper planning before production.

Start with proof

Share your wedding date before the dress becomes urgent.

Send your date, delivery country, references, and any deadline pressure. Vi will review whether the timeline is realistic before quote or payment.
