Amelia’s
Vineyard Day.

Amelia’s custom wedding dress was a full-coverage floral lace mermaid over a soft nude lining, with an off-the-shoulder sweetheart bodice, long lace sleeves, a corset lace-up back, and a lace veil that finished the vineyard look — designed from references, checked through remote fitting review, and finished at our Vietnam atelier.

Bride Vision

She wanted full romance.

Amelia came to us about four months before her wedding with a clear silhouette in mind: off-the-shoulder sweetheart, long lace sleeves, a fitted mermaid line, and a train that would read clearly in vineyard photos. She did not need a concept from scratch. She needed the references translated into her measurements.

The main challenge was fit and proportion. The lace had to cover from neckline to hem without looking heavy, the sleeve length needed to be precise, and the train had to move over grass and gravel without catching.

”I knew the shape. I needed someone to make it fit my body, not a sample size.”

Design Direction

Three sketches, one decision.

Vi sketched three mermaid directions: a fitted silhouette with a detachable train, a version with a different neckline and lace pattern, and a sketch closest to Amelia’s inspiration without the detachable train. Amelia chose Direction C because it stayed close to her references while keeping the final skirt and train cleaner for the vineyard setting.

Lace

Floral lace · soft nude lining

Rose-and-vine motifs mapped from neckline to hem over a soft nude lining. Sleeves and veil edge were kept in the same lace language for a consistent tone.

Structure

Boned bodice · lace-up back

Boned sweetheart bodice with a lace-up back closure, giving final fit flexibility without changing the off-shoulder line.

Train

Mermaid sweep · court train

Flare begins below the hip, with a court train planned for an outdoor vineyard aisle and portrait movement.

Process

Four months. Four checkpoints. All remote.

VI Dressmakers atelier — floral lace and soft nude lining approved for Amelia's off-the-shoulder mermaid gown
Lace and lining reviewed before cutting — a small but important checkpoint for a full-coverage gown.
  1. Week 0

    Inquiry & consultation

Amelia sent her inspiration references, wedding date, and delivery city. Vi reviewed the silhouette, confirmed what could be built within the timeline, and shared three sketch directions. Direction C — similar to the inspiration without the detachable train — became the working design.

  2. Week 2

    Remote measurements

Guided measurement video, taken with her sister’s help. Two readings looked inconsistent, so they were re-checked on video before pattern work started.

  3. Weeks 3 – 11

    Production · 4 remote checkpoints

Calico mock-up → first checkpoint for bodice and sleeve length. Lace cut and boned bodice assembled → second checkpoint for side seam balance. Full lace mermaid with train → third checkpoint for sleeve cuff and hem. Final stitching and packing review → fourth checkpoint before dispatch.

  4. Week 14

    Final QC + shipping

Final QC video: lace seams, bodice structure, sleeve lining, lace-up closure, hem, and packing were checked in daylight before tracked dispatch to Australia.

  5. Week 16

    She wore it.
